PopSockets IFA 2019

PopSockets IFA 2019

PROBLEM

For IFA 2019 Berlin, PopSockets needed more than a booth, they needed a cohesive brand experience. Structural design, retail merchandising, hands-on activations, and client-facing collateral all had to work as one visual system within a fixed footprint on a major international show floor.

SOLUTION

I designed the booth as a living expression of the PopSockets brand: playful, tactile, and built for interaction. A branded popcorn machine created a point of entry, while the PopCoin added a small moment of surprise through a pull-tab candy reveal. Branded bags extended the identity beyond the footprint, turning visitors into mobile brand touchpoints across the show floor.

OUTCOME

The activation consistently drew 200+ visitors to the booth each day, with the IFA15 promo code driving a 3.7% conversion rate to the online shop.

100+ production-ready assets — structural walls & retail display system, branded activations (PopCoin, popcorn, paper bag, custom PopGrips), and marketing collateral.

DELIVERABLES

Structural booth walls · Modular slat wall system · PopCoin · Branded popcorn machine & box · Ampelmann PopGrips · Paper bag · Roll-ups · B2B invitations · Booth video loop

BOOTH VIDEO / 30 SECONDS

This 30-second loop plays on the booth's mounted screen throughout the show. I spliced the footage together into a seamless, on-brand loop.

POPSOCKETS BOOTH

The booth needed to work as one considered brand experience within a fixed footprint. I designed the booth's feel and overall spatial layout to establish the PopSockets identity at scale.

BOOTH WALLS / BACK-LEFT-SLAT

The back wall, left wall, and slat wall were designed to work as one cohesive kit, buildable within real print and production constraints. All products shown were specifically selected and laid out following an art direction (PopGrips, PopWallets, and PopMinis), along with the instructions, header, and footer elements holding the whole slat wall together.

POPCORN MACHINE & BOX / FREE POPCORN!

A branded popcorn machine gave visitors a low-barrier reason to stop: free food removes the friction of approaching a sales booth cold, and because the box itself carried the branding, the hook and the brand impression happened in the same moment.

POPCOIN / CANDY PRIZE

A self-directed idea built on the PopGrip's own packaging. The PopCoin turns a flyer into a small moment of interaction: pull the tab and reveal a candy prize underneath. It also carries a discount code on the back which helped drive the booth's 3.7% conversion rate. A flyer someone glances at gets discarded; one that rewards a real action gets remembered.

AMPELMANN EVENT-EXCLUSIVE POPGRIP
& BRANDED PAPER BAG

The custom PopGrip used Berlin's own Ampelmann pedestrian-signal icon, localized specifically for this show. The branded paper bag solved a practical problem for visitors to carry what they collected, while turning all who took one into a branded presence across the rest of the exhibition floor.
